When I was told I had Hepatitis C, my first thought
was how in the world did I get this terrible virus. I called the
Texas Liver Coalition to get more information about the disease.
I switched to a more supportive and informative doctor who encouraged
me to check into support groups. So, I called the Texas Liver Coalition,
who told me about a support group at Hermann Hospital, which meets
twice a month. The first time I went to a meeting, I was quiet and
listened to everyone talk about how long they had had the virus and
Interferon. They are a great group of people. Not only did they listen,
but they were also there to answer my questions. The group also had
a lot of information about the Hepatitis C virus. I switched to a
closer support group in Tomball. Everyone was smiling and inviting,
I felt so relaxed and at ease. I knew that I wasn’t alone.
The group had the latest information, and when I was down or feeling
bad, the support group called to see how I was doing. What wonderful
and thoughtful people are in both groups. No matter what happens
in my life, I will be there to support everyone.
When I see a person who is being helped by the medicine, I think
it is a miracle, and I get such a glow of happiness for them. I know
in the future, I will have a transplant, but I could never have made
that decision without the support of such great people in our group.
We are like a team and will accomplish a lot of the issues we are
working on. Thank god, we are going to have a lot more support groups
forming, because we need each other for that great support. |
